CORTEN STEEL

Corten steel is also known as weathering steel. It’s often additionally denoted by its branded trademark COR-TEN steel. But however it’s referred to, this particular type of steel, developed from a group of steel alloys, has specific, enduring properties:

  • Cor – refers to the metal’s property of corrosion resistance.
  • Ten – denotes the metal’s tensile strength.

The combination and production of these alloys means the steel produced retains its strength and doesn’t need painting because it is corrosion resistant.

What is weathering – and why is Corten steel also known as weathering steel?

Weathering is atmospheric corrosion – literally the effect of being out in all weathers. The chemical composition of the Cor – ten alloys increases the resulting steel’s resistance to atmospheric corrosion

USEFUL ADVICE

Corten Steel can and likely will bleed for up to 12 months, meaning the rust will run on to the area surrounding the fire pit. some top tips include:

  • Avoid placing your fire pit directly onto wood or a decking area as it will become extremely hot when lit.
  • Due to rust leakage avoid any light coloured paving slabs or stones where the rust bleed will be visible.
  • Try to place on dark coloured surfaces or use a heat proof mat underneath your fire pit.

WHAT MAKES CORTEN STEEL A POPULAR CHOICE

Although Corten steel can last up to 100 years, we do advise that to prolong the lifespan of your fire pit you clean it regularly. The cleaning process is simple and easy. Use a steel brush and remove any remains of the wood or ash left in the bowl. You can use hot water to scrub with and ensure you dry with a cloth afterwards.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN WITHIN 24H OF BEING LIT AS STEEL MAY STILL BE HOT

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

Corten steel is 100% recyclable. No additional products need to be added due to its natural corrosion resistance it gains over time and it is completely non toxic.

What Is Bioethanol?

Considered as one of the most promising substitutes for fossil fuels, bioethanol is the fuel of the future!

Bioethanol is a renewable liquid biofuel that is mainly produced through the fermentation of sugar and starch components of plant by-products - mainly maize, sugar cane or crops. It can also be made from milk, rice, beetroot, grape, corn, bananas, dates and even potatoes!

There are no environmental pollutants with bioethanol, it burns clean - no sparks, soot, smoke or ash. Put simply, zero fuss.

The Benefits of Bioethanol

  • No Gas or Electricity Necessary - Bioethanol fire pits run purely on bioethanol fuel, you don't need any more power from gas or electricity, keeping it simple.
  • Simple Installation - The fire burns cleanly, producing no smoke or fumes, therefore there is no need for a flue. Due to this, installation is easy and depending on your fire pits configuration (indoor or outdoor) you can put your firepit pretty much anywhere you desire.

  • Eco Friendly - Bioethanol fires are significantly more eco friendly than traditional fossil fuels. Bioethanol fuel is plant based therefore the flames burn cleanly so they don't release any harmful substances into the air.
  • Simply Beautiful - The bioethanol fire pits have been carefully designed and selected to give our customers the highest quality options on the market. Burning bioethanol produces a beautiful dancing orange fame that is simply mesmerizing. As well as all the other benefits, you get a contemporary and stylish fire pit that will be the focal point of your garden.

Sustainability of Bioethanol

The combustion of bioethanol results in cleaner emissions (steam, heat and carbon dioxide). The carbon dioxide produced is absorbed by plants, then processed via photosynthesis by the plants to help them grow. Bioethanol is a carbon neutral fuel source due to this infinite cycle of creation and energy combustion.

Running Costs

In comparison to the installation and running of other firepits using gas or wood, the answer is no. No need for extra gas or electricity expenses, installation costs or chimneys, and they are much easier to install and run.

It is important to note that some bioethanol fire pits require a certain brand of fuel, so be sure to check in the product description or manufacturers guide before purchasing!

Using Bioethanol Indoors

Can I use bioethanol indoors? The answer is yes! However, always read the product description or manufacturers guide on the fire pit you choose to ensure it is designed for indoor use.

While bioethanol fires do produce carbon dioxide - this substance is only produced in a small amount and is a natural by-product of any real fire. They are much safer to use indoor than a traditional fire as they don't produce any smoke, ash or carcinogenic substances, so you and your family are not breathing in any harmful fumes.

Always take care whilst handling the burner and fuel. Follow the instructions and guidelines to ensure maximum safety.

Does Bioethanol Produce Heat?

Bioethanol fuel produces real-burning flames that give off plenty of heat, making them an excellent alternative for heating homes and gardens. No artificial flames or heat-free imitations, just a beautiful, dancing orange flame keeping you warm and cosy.

    How To Light and Extinguish

    • Extend the lighting rod and use the hook at the end to lift and remove the outer lid.

    • Dip the end of the lighting rod into the burner to wet with fuel.

    • Light the lighting rod and dip back into the burner to ignite the flame

To extinguish the flame, use the hook at the end of the lighting rod to lift the burner lid and cover the burner.

If you extinguish with fuel still in the burner, make sure to leave for 60 mins to allow time for the fuel to cool before re lighting.

    Additional Tips:

    • Use the safety screen - not only is it an extra safety measure, but on a windy evening the screen will protect the flames. Safety screens are not always included.

    • Buy a cover - Even though the fire pit will have been made from the very best and most durable materials, it's always best to cover when stored outside to protect the longevity of the product.

    • Use the burner efficiency ring (where applicable). This will decrease and stabilise the flame and increase the efficiency of the burner. Always allow the burner to cool fully before adding or removing the efficiency ring.

    • Check the model specifications. If you want an indoor Bioethanol fire table/place, be sure to check if it's configured for indoor or outdoor use.

    • Follow manufacturers guide to fuel - some Bioethanol fire pits will be deigned to use a specific type of fuel. This information will be found on product specifications.
